Birthday!

March 27, 2012 will mark the first anniversary of this blog.  Writing posts on a regular basis has helped me to sharpen my thoughts on my meditation, yoga and fibre practices.

I enjoy writing and appreciate the opportunity to reach anyone interested in these subjects.  As a "thank you" to my readers and in celebration of the past year, I'd like to offer a small gift to a reader:

"Heart Like a Wheel" is my guide to beginning a spinning meditation practice.  It's a 40 page manual (plastic cover, spiral bound, black and white photos) of spinning and meditation exercises and resources, including three simple knitting patterns to help you along your way.  (One of the patterns is not included in my blog patterns.)  If you take my "Heart Like a Wheel" workshop at Olds Fibre Week 2012, you'll be given a copy of the manual; otherwise, I'll be selling copies privately.  Click on the links for more information about Fibre Week 2012 and my workshop.

If you would like to win a copy of the guide, send me a message here telling me which of my posts most caught your attention and why-good or bad, either way is fine.  I would also like to know your favourite colour. Just because.

If the winner is in North America, she'll receive a hardbound copy of the manual.  An international winner will get a PDF copy of the guide, because Canadian postage rates are, well, brutally high.

The winner will be chosen randomly, by me.  You have until March 27th to enter.  I'll announce the winner on the blog and ask you to send me a land address or email addy privately.

Thanks, everyone, and Namaste!

  1. I love the tapestry on the front of your book. Is it featured somewhere else?

    1. Thanks, Jenny! Right now, the tapestry is featured in a prominent place in my fibre room closet. It was a study for a larger "meditation" piece. The study was actually better than the final tapestry. Both were woven of hand spun yarns. I haul the pieces around when I give workshops.

  2. Not to be entered in the draw, I'd be hard pressed to pick one post that most caught my attention. I enjoy all of them! And my favorite color is blue. Big surprise there, huh?

  5. Congrats on your first year.
I found my way here rather randomly, but it was your post on Gandhi and spinning that made me stay. That post stuck a cord with me so much so that I went and found a copy of the book you mentioned. I'm still working my way through the concepts of the book

I love that you have combined spinning with yoga and meditation and that you are sharing your journey with us. It's helpful seeing the theoretical side of yoga as in my area the focus seems to be on physical stretching only.

So please keep writing. May the next year be even better for you.

Ps. It's also nice finding another Deborah with similar interests

    1. Thank you so much. I began the blog because I've always loved to write-I was an English Lit major-but it's nice to know that someone reads the posts!

  6. Dear Deborah,
I, also, have to vote for the posts on Ghandi and his incorporating spinning into meditation practice. I've been spinning only since last October. Shortly after my first spinning lesson, I started treatment for anxiety and depression with a therapist who advocates meditation. Needless to say, everything fell into place as the universe dictates. Thank you for your blog, and for the courage to take the risk to share it with the community. (Favorite color: purple in all its variations.)

  7. If you're interested, the theme of the March issue of the magazine, Shambala Sun, is "Does Meditation Really Work?" One of the articles presents some of the medical evidence for the validity of meditation practice. Western science is slowly catching up to Eastern philosophy!
Purple is just the best colour!
